Oxis has been going through some exciting changes. We have purchased 51% of BioCheck, a leading provider
of high quality enzyme immunoassay research services and
products including immunoassay kits for cardiac and tumor markers, infectious diseases, thyroid
function, steroids, and fertility hormones.
BioCheck was founded in 1997 by Dr. John Chen, a biochemist with over 30 years of research and development experience.
He has developed more than 50 EIA and rapid tests including the first early pregnancy test. Dr. Chen continues as President of BioCheck and heads up the Oxis Research team.
The company operates a 15,000 square-foot, U.S. Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) certified cGMP, and ISO device-manufacturing facility in Foster
City, California. BioCheck has advanced developmental programs on two promising cancer
biomarkers, related to the Id-gene, and the HMGA2 gene.
Introducing Exciting New Products
In January, we successfully consolidated the key product manufacturing, sales and marketing functions
of OXIS and BioCheck, and are beginning to realize significant merger synergies. We are now able to offer our life sciences
research and clinical customers a more comprehensive menu of products that are known for their
high quality, stability and strong technical support. The consolidation of the companies’ operations has resulted in combined lower manufacturing costs than incurred by each company and, as a result, has allowed OXIS to implement new
value pricing programs.
In early May, OXIS expanded its product portfolio for the cardiovascular research markets
with the addition of new assay products from BioCheck, including assays for the
measurement of biomarkers of inflammation related to cardiovascular disease, including
Troponin I, Myoglobin, High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein, CK-MB, and Fatty Acid
Binding Protein. Recently we added HMGA2. Our newest products are reagents for the detection of HMGA2.
We have developed a series of products for the detection of HMGA2 (High Motility Group Protein A2)
The HMGA2 product line will include antibodies, HMGA2 recombinant protein, and an HMGA2 ELISA kit. The antibodies are now available.
